人気漫画「ジョジョ」の荒木さん　米生物学誌の表紙描く

　生物学の米専門誌セルの表紙を「ジョジョの奇妙な冒険」などで知られる漫画家、荒木飛呂彦さんが描いた。７日付同誌に論文を出した瀬藤光利・自然科学研究機構生理学研究所准教授らの成果をイメージしたもので、日本の漫画が著名な学術誌の表紙を飾った。 

 

　瀬藤さんは荒木さんの漫画の大ファン。成果のイメージを描いて欲しいと依頼したところ、荒木さんが快諾した。セルの表紙には通常、細胞の顕微鏡写真などが載るが、編集部も日本の漫画に興味を示したことから採用になった。

　瀬藤さんらのグループは、脳の中で神経細胞の情報のやりとりを調節する、たんぱく質を見つけた。やりとりに使われる神経伝達物質の量を調整するため、別のたんぱく質の分解にかかわっていることから、「壊し屋」という意味でスクラッパーと名付けた。

　表紙の漫画は、スクラッパーをイメージしたキャラクターが、破壊すべきたんぱく質（赤い円盤）を選んで、ハート形の目印をつけている場面になった。
