Hello pals,

Since I often idle about doing nothing after work, I go to the Eslite Bookstore seeking for some information from magazines. I cannot but have to admit that those articles headlined something like “The Mistress of the Minister" always catch my eye first, though I feel a little bit embarrassed to leaf through these tabloids such as Next(壹週刊)while there're a lot of people around me.

However, this experience reminds me of a tragedy which hit the headline about 6 years ago. It's the death of Diana, who was the princess of Wales and died of a car accident resulting from the chasing of paparazzi. Regarding both masses and media condemned paparazzi should account for the death of Diana, some tabloids had ceased publication at that time. Nevertheless, it's like the supply and demand theory. We're the customers who purchase the information. All of us are more or less like Peeping Tom. Nowadays, tabloids still defy the authority of the government and are getting more and more thriving.

It is approaching the end of the year now. Do you think your boss is an ass-hole and that you cannot bear him /her anymore for the rest of the year? Have you ever feel somebody be “too much” in some circumstances? Did your friends “piss you off” sometimes? If your answers to some of the cases I just mentioned above is positive, do you fell “angry” about that? We're gonna talk about “Anger Management” in the last meeting of year 2003. This is the article I recommend you guys to read about before the discussion: http://www.apa.org/pubinfo/anger.html

Questions for Discussion:
Session I
1. In general, we consider that the emotion“anger” is kind of negative, but do you think “anger” is totally negative of a person? Why or why not?

Therefore, how can you have the heart to miss the special opportunity to see our lovely members when they are still single and young in 2003? Besides, the topic below may be a good reason to pay a visit and enjoy the warm atmosphere of speaking English.

The topic for the upcoming gathering on 12/17(Wednesday) is “Breakfast And Fruit” .

Today we're gonna talk about the sense of humor. What is “humor”?
Humor is an attitude: an attitude towards expressions, an attitude towards listening, even an attitude towards thinking. Humor is also lubricant for relations between people. An ex-president of United States is known for his humor. Once in his speech, the first lady was falling asleep right in the first row, and began to snore. At that moment, the situation was quite embarrassing, then the President said,"Dear wife, didn’t we decide to show this move when lots of audience felt sleepy?" The sense of humor can often cease the embarrassment .
Since the topic is about humor, I would like to make some differences from our regular discussion : I hope everybody can prepare “two” different jokes. We will discuss some questions in two 45-minute group discussions. The most interesting part is everyone should share your own jokes with your group, and each group will vote for the most funny joke to share with us. I'll be expecting you guys’ funny jokes. ^^

Session I

Next Wednesday we will talk about science fiction, but rather than posting a long and tiresome article for everyone to read, I'll just give you a short introduction to what we will talk about. Fiction by definition is "The act of feigning, inventing, or imagining". It is untrue and unreal; it can be fantasized worlds like The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter or futuristic science fictions like Star Trek or Star Wars. Imagine yourself in a place like this: take your mind back to the days of childhood when girls dream of being a princess waiting to be saved by a brave knight, and boys fantasizing of being the Man of Steel, the place where dreams lay...

1. Do you believe that there is life on other planets besides ours? If so, what would you imagine them to look like? What would you do if you came face to face with an alien for the first time?

2. Do you sometimes wish that you have supernatural powers? If so, what powers would you wish for? Invisibility, power to fly, ultimate strength, x-ray vision, telepathic abilities? How and where would you use these powers?
